Wanted to DJ but don’t have the full equipment to play with? Pioneer have released a virtual deck console known as WeDJ that allows anyone to download the free app onto their phone and have a go at mixing tracks and making their own sounds. It’s fantastic news from Pioneer, as there are countless of virtual DJ consoles online and on your mobile to try out from, but with the familiar interface of pioneer DJ, not only can existing Pioneer and Rekordbox users tuck straight in, but new users get a chance to have an early idea of how the real thing goes down.

We had a chance to play around with the WeDJ on our HTC U11 phone, and first most is that it’s very user friendly, if you are a DJ you will easily find what you’re looking for in the in-app plugins such as sound fx, mixer console, hot cues, loops and much more. As a stand alone app, its great for practising your fading, setting up hot cues and utilising the Pad FX for the more creative DJs.

The WeDJ app goes hand in hand with the DDJ-WEGO4.

The Pioneer DJ DDJ-WeGO4 is a two-channel controller. It’s got a two-band EQ and a filter knob, along with two channel faders and a crossfader. There are two small jogwheels, each with four switchable hot cue / sampler buttons, and transport controls at the bottom. At the top of the jogwheels are loop on/off buttons with 1/2 loop and 2x loop size buttons, plus three Pad FX buttons, which are like instant effect buttons.

Here’s a sample of the WeDJ in action.
